What is Prosthodontics?
Prosthodontics is the branch of dental medicine that specializes in promoting optimal oral health through esthetic and functional restoration, tooth replacement and tooth enhancement of damaged, chipped, cracked or missing teeth including cosmetic dentistry procedures.

Following a four-year graduate program in dental medicine, prosthodontists receive three years of advanced specialty training involving hundreds of patients with complex esthetic and functional problems and must pass rigorous examinations to become ADA certified in prosthodontics. In fact, only prosthodontists can truly be called tooth replacement specialists.

Prosthodontists are experts in addressing a variety of dental health issues from simple cosmetic procedures to complete oral rehabilitation using multiple treatment options and techniques.

This includes a variety of traditional and progressive procedures that address oral health issues such as:
- Dental Implants - Surgery & Restoration
- TMJ & TMD
- Bite Problems & Occlusion
- Crowns
- Caps
- Bridges
- Dentures
- Teeth Whitening
- Veneers
- IV and Oral Conscious Sedation

Beyond Dentistry
Dr. Mark Nation and Dr. Ryan Wayland are certified prosthodontists with over 22 years of combined experience in dentistry and prosthodontics. Since 2003, the experts at Renew Institute have been raising the standard of dental knowledge and care in Kentuckiana.
Renew Institute is the first dental practice of it’s kind to go “beyond dentistry,” treating patients with innovative dental options and serving Louisville and Southern Indiana area dentists.

Since there are relatively few prosthodontic specialists in the greater Louisville area, we view ourselves as knowledge brokers in the field of dental restorative innovation and dental specialties: we focus on educating our patients and sharing knowledge with other dental practitioners and specialists in order to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

Many years of specialized training and experience enable us to treat the mouth as a single organ. We provide a comprehensive treatment approach applying dental implant surgery and restorative procedures that go beyond procedure-based dentistry to treat causes, not just symptoms.

For example, we expertly repair and replace damaged or missing teeth using a variety of tools — crowns/caps, bridges, complete or partial dentures, implants, veneers, etc. — but we are also uniquely qualified to understand and address the underlying issues that caused the problems in the first place.

Our comprehensive approach results in better overall value, a more pleasing esthetic appearance, stronger, longer-lasting restorative solutions, and fewer future problems.

Multiple options of care including oral conscious sedation and IV conscious sedation combined with our advanced diagnostic capabilities allow us to tailor a treatment plan ideally suited to each individual patient situation. We will also coordinate care with other specialists such as orthodontists, periodontists, and oral surgeons to ensure the best possible outcomes.
